01.02.05 Wooding
Another year, another winter. This load of wood is from an area either side of the stream a couple of fields away from the house, which had fallen during heavy weather. A hi-capacity landrover like ours can carry about one and a half tonne and get in and out of tricky places - we had to get this over the stream.
We have recently purchased an electric chainsaw which we can run from our veggie oil generator and although it may be quite small, just a 16 inch cutting length, it is incredibly quick at getting through even large oak boughs. I can't believe we have lasted all these years without one.
I remember taking apart large windfallen trees with only hand tools - two-man saw, many wedges and heavy hammers. It was not that long ago either.
We can easily keep this place bearable over winter with just windfallen and demolition timber, but come the beginning of March I'm getting bored with the cold and can't wait for spring. The new acquisition of a small chain saw will take a lot of the hard work out of keeping warm.
